I cut the log in half through the pith (center) along its length. The wood smelled like natural potato chips – like the kind you might make at home with freshly cut potatoes and oil – and is a little bit hairy. The faces have soft, hairy fibers on them, torn out from the cut. There seems no chance of getting a splinter from this wood.
