In Germany this type of figure is known as a ‘smoking manikin’ and they are very popular at Christmas time from advent onwards. A small insence pellet is lit to smolder and placed inside the figure: the scented smoke then wafts out of the figure’s mouth. I made this ‘manikin’ in the likeness of Sherlock Holmes to illustrate an article in ‘Woodturning’ magazine.
